Originally a researcher in Prehistoric Archaeology at Cambridge University, I then had a career as a teacher in a variety of Special Educational settings. For the past 26 years I have been mainly focused on aspects of Learning Disability, primarily as a family carer supporting my son who has complex needs. As a graduate of Partners in Policymaking Eastern Region, I am passionate about the Inclusion of people with Learning Disabilities in all aspects of life and am an active campaigner, consultant and trainer aiming to change people’s attitudes and understanding. Having worked as a trainer for Cambridgeshire County Council around involving families in all aspects of Workforce Development, I was able to go on to input into Valuing People and Valuing People Now Government Policies for Learning Disability. Most recently as a member of the National Valuing Families Forum, I am their National Representative at the Government’s National Learning Disability Programme Board.
